Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
