Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
