No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
