Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
