Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
