Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
