Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
