Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
