Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
