Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success.
