Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
