Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
