NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
