NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
