NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
