Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
