Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
