Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
