Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
