Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
