Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
