No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
