Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
