Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
