Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
