No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?


Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
