No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
