Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
