NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
