Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
