NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
