Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
