Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
