Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
