Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
